E-commerce website

Sean the baker and his wife Megan had a passion for baking bread. He bought a small Refoc oven which would allow him to bake extra loaves. He could then distribute these to neighbours.

Then COVID-19 hit and lockdown happened. Suddenly, demand for delicious home-baked bread and pastries increased from all over his local northwest London neighbourhood.

With the phone ringing off the hook, Sean and Megan needed a way to manage their orders and take payment. So working with Squarespace, That Web Person quickly whipped up an e-commerce site. The couple had already produced a logo and was running a popular Instagram account so we used this as a basis for the site design.

Within a week, Sean’s Loaf had a website representing their brand and ethos, taking payments and allowing them to manage their stock levels.

Sean was keen to offer delivery as part of the service at a fixed price, but the unexpected demand beyond Cricklewood into surrounding areas of West Hampstead, Golders Green, Willesden, Child’s Hill and Hampstead was posing problems. How could he work out a fair way to charge for this without being too out-of-pocket?

An off-the-shelf template like Squarespace offers limitations on shop functionality including delivery options. Unable to set a radius-based delivery charge, we needed to find a workaround. In the end, we added an additional product which users could add to cover the additional deliveries needed. We could still use the site to manage stock levels and still keep a fixed-price delivery.

His delicious product line is still expanding, but the site is easy to manage and update himself giving him complete control. And the simple-to-use website is bringing customers back again week after week.

My wife and I used the services of Reena to build our bakery website, something which she excels at! I am a complete technophobe, so having someone that can explain the nuances in website design and how you interact with it was a blessing!

She had great suggestions and recommendations for what would work and how to set out the shop. Once the website was live, she liaised with us on how to run it and adapt it, because our products change quite regularly.

I don’t think our business would have had the exposure it has had without Reena’s work, the website is easily accessible for all generations of people. This is testament to her innate understanding of what is needed, in our case from a very thin explanation. She is the boss of jobs!!!!

Since writing this case study, Sean’s Loaf has grown substantially, updating their logo, adding a subscription service and reducing its wholesale customers. With an increased range of products and complications of pick-up and delivery, the site was moved to Shopify. in 2022 with further support from That Web Person.
